The Pine Canyon Store has proudly served our rural Southern Monterey County community since 1974.

In 1973, Scotty and Ruby Hayes purchased an old, weathered building on this very site — formerly known as the Dew Drop Inn. It had been closed for some time, but they saw possibility where others saw decline. With hard work and determination, they reopened it as the Pine Canyon Store - a neighborhood store dedicated to serving local families, ranchers, and travelers passing through the area.

Scotty was no stranger to the gasoline business. As a young husband and father, he worked alongside relatives at their stations before eventually operating his own Chevron station in King City. His children grew up in the business — pumping gas, washing windows, checking oil, and learning firsthand the value of honest work and friendly service.

In 1989, Scotty and Ruby made the decision to build a new store and add gasoline service to better meet the needs of the growing community. The current Pine Canyon Store facility, along with fuel service, officially opened in 1990.

For decades, Scotty and Ruby operated the business with a simple philosophy: treat customers like neighbors. In 2020, due to health concerns, they passed the torch to their son, Larry. Today, Larry operates the store alongside his wife Denise and their sons, Jon and Andrew — continuing three generations of family service.

For over 50 years, Pine Canyon Store has been more than just a place to fuel up. It has been a gathering spot, a dependable stop, and a part of daily life in this rural community.

As we look toward the future, our commitment remains the same: to serve our customers with integrity, quality, and genuine hospitality — just as it has always been.
